Thailand - The Central Area of Thailand

Bangkok, The city of angels, is the capital of Thailand. With access to the Gulf of Thailand at its most northerly reach, this city is highly dependant on water for transport as well a road, rail and air.

The central area has administrative borders with the other four areas of Thailand and a land border with Myanmar (Burma)

Other really important places and sites and provinces in the central area are:

Ang Thong Province, is bang in the middle of the central region but is little known by tourists and visitors.

Ayutthaya Province , is in the north of the central region about 75 km from Bangkok. A major historical area as well as a bustling town. The ruins were left as the result of a Burmese invasion and occupation in 1767. Close by is the Bang Pa-in Palace, on the Chao Phraya River, south of Ayutthaya. The complex has royal buildings dating back from the early 1900s to the early 17th century.

Chai Nat Province in the centre of the central area is little known by tourists and visitors.

Kanchanaburi Province, just over 125 km from Bangkok is where the infamous second world war 'Death Railway' crossed the River Kwai. Today the area is a river rafting haven.

Lop Buri, 153 km north of Bangkok is famous for the Khmer style shrines and the ruins of the 17th century palace of King Narai.

Nakhon Nayok Province in eastern sector of the central region is little known by tourists and visitors.

Nakhon Pathom, 55 km north west of Bangkok has the worlds tallest Buddhist pagoda.

Nakhon Sawan on the northern edge of the central area is little known by tourists and visitors.

Nonthaburi Province just to the north of Bangkok in the central area is little known by tourists and visitors.

Pathum Thani Province to the north east of Bangkok in the central area is little known by tourists and visitors.

Phetchaburi, south west of Bangkok by about 125 km, is a costal provincial area with many great beaches, religious, historical and natural attractions.

Ratchaburi of the central area is little known by tourists and visitors.

Samut Prakan Province on the eastern seaboard of the central area is little known by tourists and visitors.

Samut Sakhon Province to the west of Bangkok in the central area is little known by tourists and visitors.

Samut Songkhram Province on the seaboard to the west of Bangkok in the central area is little known by tourists and visitors.

Saraburi, around 105 km from Bangkok is a Buddhist pilgrimage centre where they pay homage at the Lord Buddha's Footprint.

Sing Buri Province is a small province close to the centre of the central area but is little known by tourists and visitors.

Suphan Buri area is little known by tourists and visitors.

Uthai Thani on the north west edge of the central area is little known by tourists and visitors.
