Buddha: " Whenever you see things, just see. Whenever you listen, just listen. Whenever you know, just know."

Thailand - Central Region - Lop Buri Province

Lop Buri Province is just 153 km north of Bangkok and is famous for the Khmer style shrines and the ruins of the 17th century Palace of King Narai and the new Sunflower Dance.

Lop Buri is one of Thailand's central provinces with provincial borders on Ang Thong, Ayutthaya (Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya), Chaiyaphum, Phetchabun, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nakhon Sawan, Saraburi, and Sing Buri. Lop Buri Province is located on the east side of the central Chao Phraya river valley.

Lop Buri was called Lavo during the Dvaravati period (6th to 11th century). Then the Khmer erased the traces of the history and built impressive temples. The natives of Lop Buri fought for independence from the Khmer rulers temporarily but soon became part of the Thai kingdom Sukhothai and later Ayutthaya. King Narai of Ayutthaya made Lop Buri the second capital of the country in middle of the 17th century. The provincial coat of arms shows King Narai standing in front of the Khmer temple of Phra Prang Sam Yod.

Lop Buri is divided into 11 Amphoe (districts), Muang Lop Buri, Ban Mi, Chai Badan, Khok Charoen, Khok Samrong, Lam Sonthi, Nong Muang, Phattana Nikhom, Sa Bot, Tha Luang and Tha Wung. These districts are further subdivided into 124 Tambon (communities) with over 1100 villages.
