Chan Sen - Ancient City: Muang Boran (ancient city) Chan Sen and Chan Sen
Museum are situated about 90 km from Nakhon Sawan city in Tambon Chan Sen,
Amphoe Ta Khli.
Chan Sen was built by Funan-Suphanaphum and Dvaravati monarchs
well over a thousand years ago. Excavations have shown that in the
Dvaravati period the city was built on an earth mound surrounded by a huge
defensive moat about 20 m. wide. The city was about 800 m. long and 700 m.
wide with an area of about 480,000 sq. m. As the part of the city within
the moat is higher than that outside, locals call it "Khok" Chan Sen.
Further
excavations conducted at the Chan Sen site unearthed many artifacts,
including bronze Buddha images, terracotta bowls, porcelain dolls,
and official seals contemporary to the Dvaravati period. The archeological
findings are housed, and many displayed, in the Chan Sen Museum at
Wat Chan Sen.
