Thailand - Thai Culture
- Classical Drama and Dance

Thai Classical drama and dance are virtually indivisible. Most of the techniques of Thai dance have their origins in the Indian sub-continent. The Thai dancers have slowed the movement down and made it much more graceful. Thai drama like the masked very formal 'Khon' and less so formal and more graceful 'Lakhon' were originally only performed in royal and noble circles. The shadow plays 'Nang Yai' and 'Nang Talung' and the 'Hun' - marionettes likewise.

The general public could at one time only experience the classical dramas and dance, very occasionally at the village Buddhist monastery.
