Thailand - Customs - Bird Release

There was a Thai lady wandering the streets of Chiang Mai with a number of small baskets full of small birds (about eight in each basket). Our guide 'Golf' told us that the lady made a living out of selling the birds for immediate release. The point of the exercise was that in releasing your purchased birds you were buying their freedom and in turn they would bestow some good fortune upon the releasee. We paid 100 Baht for Jean to release six to eight sparrow sized birds.
