April and May?
The Thai summer season usually runs from the end two weeks of February,
through March, April and the first two weeks of May this is expected
to be the same in 2006
General situation - Based on previous years - The Thai summer season will
start around mid-February. The weather is usually generally dry with
hot and very hot weather mostly in March and April. There is little expected
rainfall during the summer season - rain will be little and infrequent,
resulting in probable drought condition in some areas, especially in the
lower northern region, the western side of northeastern region, central region,
the upper portion of eastern and southern regions of Thailand. Visitors should
beware of the heat situation. The end of the summer season is around mid-May
and then starting on rainy season (monsoon) for 2006
The weather outlook - Based on historical data - The northern
region: Generally hazy, hot weather in the daytime and very hot mostly
from mid-March till the end of the season with maximum temperatures
from 40 to 43 Celsius. This applies to areas of Mae
Hong Son, Lampang,
Lamphun, Nan, Uttaradit, Sukhothai, and the northeastern region provinces
of Tak, Phetchabun, Loei, Udon Thani, Mukdahan, Khon Kaen, Roi Et,
Chaiyaphum and Ubon Ratchathani provinces.
The central and eastern regions: Haze, generally hot weather in daytime
and very hot from mid-March till the end of the season with maximum
temperatures from 40 to 42 C in some areas of Nakhon Sawan, Suphan
Buri, Lopburi, Kanchanaburi, Sa Kaeo and Prachin Buri provinces.
The southern region: Hot weather during daytime in general, maximum temperature
35 - 39 degree C regionally in Prachuap Kiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat
Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat , Songkhla and Trang provinces with isolated
rainfall. For southern west coast, increasing in rainfall from the end of
April to May, starting on rainy season before other regions of Thailand.
Slight to moderate sea in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand,
wave height one to two meters.
Bangkok: Haze and hot weather during daytime, the highest maximum temperature
in March and April around 38 - 39 degree C.
Warnings: Summer thunderstorms which comprise of thundershowers, occasional
gust and sometimes hail may occur regionally in northern Thailand.
Drought conditions may occur in various areas over northern Thailand. Visitors
should beware of this natural state and check daily weather forecast.
Tropical Cyclones: From the end of April to mid-May. The tropical cyclone
season is in the Andaman Sea at this time and may move eastward near
to the western coast of southern Thailand or even to the west of the
central region, causing increased rainfall and the possibility of flash
flooding with the strengthening of the south-west monsoons in the southern
region and Gulf of Thailand.
Forest Fire: Due to the very dry conditions in general, visitors particularly "Back Packers" should
be wary when using fire or fuel in outdoor activities.
