Hua Hin Jazz - Jam Sessions
Hua Hin 'living' jazz is a free scene that is ongoing in at least two jazz bars; Ray's Place and Jazz Makers; Hua Hin jazz clubs, close to the Hua Hin Night Market, with occasional jazz 'open mike' spots.
Hua Hin Jazz Restaurant
Live jazz is played in at least one restuarant, around six nights per week - Coco51, on Soi 51, Hua Hin. The restaraunt overlooks overlooks the sea where 'Doctor Jazz' and others feature Monday through Saturday.
Thailand Jazz
The popularity of jazz and jazz promotion in Thailand has been brought about by the King of Thailand playing jazz, composing jazz and promoting Thai jazz, he has published some very good music that Thai jazz musicians and expat musicians like to play.
There are a number of expatriate jazz musicians 'doing the circuit' and boosting the local Thai jazz musicians confidence and style in Hua Hin particularly.
Hua Hin Jazz Festival
There is the annual Hua Hin Jazz Festival, Since 2002, organized by the Hua Hin Hotelier’s Club in conjunction with other main supporters such as the Tourism Authority of Thailand, that has in the past been sponsored by Hineken. The Hua Hin Jazz Festival in June 2008 is expected to draw thousands of visitors to the town this year, all keen to enjoy local and international bands on between two and four open-air stages together with some free jazz workshops. In this sunny seaside setting, the Jazz Festival at Hua Hin has become a defining event in the annual Thai jazz calendar.
The weekend jazz event will see a variety of jazz groups rotating their performances. The artists that have indicated they will be atending are Ibrahim Electric, Malene Mortensen (DK), Jonas Johansen Trio (DK), Lazaro Valdes, Michael Blake, Mikkel Nordso Band (DK), Ben Besiakov Trio (DK), Thomas Fryland, Bill Bruford's, T-Bone Earthworks Crescendo Mansri, Mr.Saxman, Denny & Friend, Bamboo, Proad, Rudklao, Doo Ba Doo, Lipta and JRP Little Bigband.
The Hua Hin Jazz Festival 2007 was held on the 8th and 9th June 2007 with the main stage at the Sofitel Hotel beach.
Hua Hin 'Jazz Train'
There is a 'Jazz Train', Music Excursion that runs from Hua Hin periodically through the year to various scenic spots in Thailand.
For example the Jazz Train in February 2008 organised by Mr Ray of Ray's Place, took you from paradise in Hua Hin to jazz heaven for around 40 GBP which included the train ride, a jazz music concert with dinner, overnight in a hotel at a very cool resort, more jazz and a tour of Baan Krut, possibly one of Thailand’s last undiscovered gems.
