The Khao San Road (Khaosan), Bangkok
About 600m long, The Khao San Road (Khaosan) in the Banglumpu (Banglumpoo - Bang Lamphu) District of Bangkok. The Khao San Road is a bustling meeting point of east and west.
Travellers and backpackers from around the globe seem to converge here, mixing with local entrepreneurs, for no other reason than 'it is there'. Having said that there are plenty of English, German and French speaking Thais working their businesses on The Khao San Road, travel agents and tour operators, tailors, Thai massage, bars, restaurants and all kinds of souvenir shops, (the AA Spiral Guide - Thailand calls it a 'street circus') you can buy just about anything here. The Khao San Road is also home to a myriad of budget and backpacker accommodation (Rough Guide to Thailand describes them as no-frills crash-pads)! Keep your valuables on you at all times and beware of pickpockets.
Getting to The Khao San Road (Khaosan), Bangkok: The Khaosan Road is within easy walking distance of the Tourist Chao Phraya River Boat, at Pier N 13 (Banglumpoo, Phra Arthit).
You can eat for 'buttons' by buying from street vendors, watch your food being cooked, fresh and hot. We can recommend the 'Roti' pancakes, laced with condensed milk or stuffed with fresh banana.
If your looking for the closest thing to an Full English Breakfast in Bangkok, then the Khaosan Road is the place to get it.
If you want a fake Press Pass, you can get that here too! Along with a Irish Driving Licence or Harvard Business School Degree. There is cheap internet access here too.
If you really feel homesick for the UK then just go and stand in 'Boots' the chemist. Not a bootleg Boots but one of the real Bangkok branches, small but well stocked with familiar items! The English speaking Thai pharmacist can help you out with any minor ailments too.
Our preferred Bangkok and Central Province tour operator Mini Tours is based here too. Mini Tours (Mini TA Limited Partnership) is situated at 249 Minimart Building, Khaosan Road, Banglumpoo, Bangkok 10200, Thailand. Operated by partners Mel and Koy, assisted by Justin. About the best prices for sightseeing tours around the Central Region and Bangkok you'll find.
We liked the Khao San Road, if for no other reason, it smiles from end to end.
