The North East Area of Thailand.

The north east area is known as Isan in Thai. An area of historical, geological and archeological significance. Thought of as a high dry plateau by most this vast areas has but a few provinces that visitors and tourists know about. A different Thailand!

Annat Charoen Province is an area little known by tourists and visitors. The province shares a border with Laos.

Buri Ram Province is an area little known by tourists and visitors. The province shares a border with Cambodia.

Chaiyaphum Province is an area little known by tourists and visitors.

Kalasin Province is where more dinosaur fossils were found - They are now on display in the Dinosaur Research Centre at Sahatkhan.

Khon Kaen Province about 450 km from Bangkok is the production area for the fine Matmi silk. And at the Phuwiang National Park there is an exhibition of dinosaur bones that were discovered in the park.

Khorat is the short name for Nakhon Ratchasima Province and is the nearest province in the north eastern area to Bangkok at 270 km and is therefore described by many as the gateway to the north east area. Notable spots here are the Thao Suranari Monument. The Khmer style Prasat Hin Phimai stone built Buddhist shrine.

Loei Province is an area little known by tourists and visitors. The province is the location of the Phu Kradueng National Park - best visited in the cool season. Loei shares a border with Laos.

Maha Sarakham Province is an area little known by tourists and visitors.

Mukdahan Province is an area little known by tourists and visitors. The province shares a border with Laos.

Nakhon Phanom Province is an area little known by tourists and visitors. The province is about 750 km from Bangkok by road and shares a border with Laos. There is an ancient pagoda with a relic of the Lord Buddha at Phrathat Phanom.

Nong Khai Province is an area little known by tourists and visitors and about as far from Bangkok asa you can get in the north east area. The province shares a long border with Laos.

Roi Et Province is an area little known by tourists and visitors.

Sakon Nakhon Province is an area little known by tourists and visitors.

Si Sa Ket Province is an area little known by tourists and visitors. The province shares a border with Cambodia.

Surin Province is the home province of many of the last wild Thai elephants and the spectacle of the elephant roundup in November each year. Just over 450 km from Bangkok the province shares a border with Cambodia.

Udon Ratchathani Province is the home of the Pha Taem National Park. About 630 km from Bangkok, this province shares borders with Cambodia and Laos.

Ubon Thani Province is home to he UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bang Chan Village, an ancient site of a lost civilization.

Yasothon Province is an area little known by tourists and visitors.
