Chiang Rai Province is the furthest north of the provinces at almost 800 km from Bangkok. Here visitors can experience fine trekking and seek out the hill tribes of the Golden Triangle. Famed for the excursions that take you from Thailand across borders to Laos and Myanmar (Burma) and back.
As Chiang Rai is located in a terrain of high mountains and renowned for its good weather it is a popular destination for travelers.
Among Chiang Rai's tourist attractions are, the Doi Tung Royal Pavilion - former residence of the late Princess Mother, with its richly planted gardens and elaborate buildings.
Doi Mae Sloang, where you will find the Wat Chedi Luang. Doi Mae Sloang is also an area of ethnic Chinese and hill tribe communities.
Chiang Rai is at the heart of the "Golden Triangle" offering border vistas on the three neighboring countries of Thailand, Myanmar (Burma) and Laos.
