Sena Place Hotel, Bangkok - ReceptionWe stayed at the Sena Place Hotel an independant Phaholyothin hotel in October and November 2007 and found it to be a fair priced hotel with friendly helpful staff, some of whom spoke reasonable English. We negotiated a discounted rate (over 25% off) as we were staying in Bangkok for at least 1 month and were offered a 'superior double' room with buffet breakfast and wireless internet access included. All rooms have air-conditioning.

Sena Place Hotel, Bangkok - Back aspectThe Sena Place Hotel calls itself 'a superior pleasure and business hotel', located on Phaholyothin Road, Soi 11, not far from the Bangkok Expressway Saphan Kwai Intersection and the (locally) well known Victory Monument. The Sena Place Hotel is on the Northern Skytrain BTS Route, just north of Ari BTS SkyTrain (walking distance) and south of Senaruam Mainline Stations. Not far from the Saphan Kwai BTS SkyTrain Station (walking distance). We found that taking a metered taxi to any of the visitor attractions in central Bangkok rarely cost us much more than 100Bht (even in rush hour when you could be sat at a traffic light for 10 minutes or more!)

Sena Place Hotel, Bangkok - View from pool areaWe would not class the Sena Place Hotel as a 'budget' hotel but it is cheap by UK standards, having 190 well appointed guestrooms with en-suite bathrooms, TV with Satellite Channels including 2 English language (HBO - Home Box Office and CNN - Cable News Network), minibar-fridge (with 2 free 500ml bottles of water daily) and wireless internet access. The rooms are serviced daily (with complimentary toiletries), clean and fairly well maintained.

Sena Place Hotel, Bangkok - Dining RoomThe buffet breakfast is really quite good with a variety of 'International' fare (fried, boiled or scrambled egg), local bacon or ham slices, hot-dog sausages, fried potatoes, salad bar , local dishes included: stir fry, stew, rice dishes, soya bean curd, etc., fresh fruit - watermelon, pineapple paw-paw (papaya), cerial is usally corn flakes or puffed rice, hot bread rolls - toast and marmalade (or jam), fruit (flavoured) juice, cold milk, chilled water, tea or coffee [what more could you ask for].

After breakfast you can sit in the ground floor lounge at the opposite end of the foyer and read the English edition of The Bangkok Post, while your hotel room is made up.

Sena Place Hotel, Bangkok - Swimming PoolThe swimming pool and surrounding area was clean. The water was unheated, (thankfully on a really hot day!) and quite small, with limited sun-lounger / seating space. Not many of the Thai nationals or other Orientals seemed interested in using this facility so on many occasions we were the only patrons at the pool-side. The pool is open 07.00 to Sena Place Hotel, Bangkok - Poolside 19.00. There is a reasonably good view of Bangkok city, particularly at night from the pool terrace.

There was a fitness 'suite' next to the pool area with a treadmill, cross-trainer, rowing-machine, 'abs' equipment and small weights.

The Sena Place Hotel is in a slightly unusual position about 200m off the two main roads that pass by (in opposite directions), surrounded by residential properties and low rise apartments. Sena Place Hotel, Bangkok - Tuk TukHaving said that, there is a free Hotel Tuk Tuk service between 08.00 and 21.00 to the end of Soi 11 and 14. Walking distance to night markets.

If you don't fancy the walk out for your evening meal then room service is reasonably priced or you could use the in-house Chinese style Restaurant.

Local Area:

There is a very reasonably priced laundry, with friendly [family] operators, at the end of Soy 14 turn right, 5th shop on the right. We droped and picked up our laundry on, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The clothes were washed and ironed. There is a next day express service if you need it!

The Abu Ibrahim 'Muslim' Restuarant (no alcohol) on the right hand corner of Soy 14 is a great place to eat if you like authentic asian food and very reasonably priced. You are requested to dress respectfully: no short, short skirts or sleveless tops for ladies.

'Big C' department store (about 600mtr) near to Saphan Kwai BTS station has a food and durables hall as well as a 'Food Park' restuarant with tasty original Thai dishes from just 25 Bht! The building also contains a KFC, Pizza parlour and Black Canyon Coffee Shop along with a few other food outlets of varying national tastes.

We can recommend is a small, husband and wife, tailoring, dress / shirt-makers business opposite a material shop (basic English spoken) in a covered 'alley' market by the	corner of Saphan Kwai Junction, North BangkokWe can recommend a very reasonably priced, small, husband and wife, tailoring, dress / shirt-makers business opposite a material shop (basic English spoken) in a covered 'alley' market by the corner of Saphan Kwai Junction, North Bangkok.

There are Pharmacies, Dentists, Hairdressers, Thai Massage, Seven-Eleven Minimarts, a Post Office and much, much more all within a few hundred meteres.
