Thailand - Surat Thani Province - Koh Samui
Koh Samui travel guide - Situated in the Gulf of Thailand, 85 km east of Surat Thani the mainland parent province. Koh Samui is about 250 sq km. 21 km wide and 25 km long.
Koh Samui only has two seasons: The rainy season is from September to January when it is still warm and the dry season is February to August give or take a month either way for each season.
There is a ring road that runs right round the island about 50 km in length. The ring road joins most of the main habitations.
Koh Samui has been charming visitors to its shores since the early 1970's. The island people welcome the tourists and all that goes with them as this influx has boosted the island's economy many times over.
The island is now becoming so popular with foreigners that many are buying second homes here.
In Thai - Ko or Koh means island and you will probably find either in an islands name. Koh Samui or Ko Samui is quickly changing from a backpackers paradise to a property investors opportunity! With new hotels, apartments and high standard accommodation springing up everywhere. The most profitable business on the island at the moment must be the ready mixed concrete business!
Koh Samui is one of the many islands on the east coast of Surat Thani Province of Thailand. Surat Thani Province is known at the province of a hundred islands. Koh or Ko Samui is probably the best known of the Thai islands internationally. The island was once a major coconut producing island but has become a popular resort for both Thai and foreign tourists. The third largest island in Thailand after Phuket and Ko Chang. Koh Samui is the prime island in a group of 48 islands. The archipelago is a rich habitat for birds both land and sea species abound.
There are plenty of tropical paradise beaches for the basking tourists and some places of reasonable interest for the adventurer. With tourist driven attractions springing up all over the place, some of which may leave the tourist perplexed.
