Songkhla City
Songkhla city is about 1300 km from Bangkok. Situated in the Amphoe Muang
Songkhla, Songkhla Province - The town has city status as the
premiere town of Songkhala province. A lively town with long-tail and
fishing boats arriving and leaving all day. This small city is the
main educational centre for the southern Thailand. There is a university
- Prince of Songkhla University, a number of research facilities, technical
colleges and a military training camp.
Unlike other provincial capitals Songkhla
city is not the biggest in the province - Hat Yai is twice the
size - 25 km away often leads to people thinking that Hat Yai is
the capital.
To Get There: Air-conditioned buses leave Bangkok's Southern Bus Terminal
every evening for the 18 hour trip to Songkhla. There is also a regular bus
service from nearby Had Yai airport , which takes less than an hour. Songkhla
city can also be reached from Bangkok by train or air via Had Yai.
Getting about Songkhla: Inexpensive Taxi-buses or Songthaews service the
city areas.
Songkhla is home to the Songkhla
Zoo with a collection of Asian tapirs and a hornbill exhibitions with
other wild animals.
