Buddha: " Whenever you see things, just see. Whenever you listen, just listen. Whenever you know, just know."Thailand - South Region - Yala ProvinceYala province is located on the Malay Peninsula and is the only landlocked province in the south region. Yala includes the southernmost point of Thailand bordering on Malaysia. Yala province with an area of about 4,500 sq km also has borders with three other Thai provinces: Narathiwat, Pattani and Songkhla. Yala is subdivided into 8 Amphoe (districts): Muang Yala, Bannang Sata, Betong, Kabang, Krong Pinang, Raman, Than To and Yaha, which are further subdivided into 56 Tambon (communities) with about 340 Mubaan (villages) within its borders. We would not recommend tourist activities in Yala province as it has been in a state of political and religious, separatist unrest for many years - which has been more pronounced since January 2004. As one of only four provinces in Thailand where the majority of the population are Muslim, about 70%. The other factor is that around 65% of the population are of Malay extraction due to the fact that Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala provinces were originally ceded to Thailand in 1909 by the British from the Malay Kingdom of Patani. |
