The ‘Ticino’ is Switzerland's Italian speaking canton.
Rooms for Rent close to Doi Inthanon National Park.
We visited 'Swiss Ticino' in early January 2008 and found that a Swiss gentleman called Frank and his charming wife 'Mam' had found a small slice of
heaven in northern Thailand and decided to share it with visitors from around the world.
Swiss Ticino Homestay and Restaurant is located in the village of Mae Wang, situated in the foothills of the Doi Inthanon National Park, close to Chiang Mai,
Northern Thailand. To get to Swiss Ticino Homestay and Restaurant you have to travel about 40km from Chiang Mai centre. We found the cheapest way to get
there was by 'big yellow taxi' Seelaw or Songthaw from Chiang Mai at around 30 Baht per person.
The property is surrounded by fantastic mountain views of the foothills of the Doi Inthanon (Mountain) National Park, caressed by a fresh mountain breeze, with a very quiet, homely and friendly atmosphere, suitable for a most
relaxing and enjoyable time, where you can treat your taste-buds to their simple but delicious food selections 'Ticino' style from the comprehensive and reasonably priced menu.
At present the Swiss Ticino Homestay and Restaurant have four en suite double rooms for rent, offering you an opportunity to share and enjoy their peaceful and
relaxing atmosphere. They have a beautiful garden to relax in, full of exotic flowering plants and visited by butterflies every few seconds!
Nearby you will find many attractions such as an Elephant School, the Mae Wang and Na Sa Pok Waterfalls and Hill Tribe Villages of the Karen Hmong ethnic
mountain people. Of course there is also the Doi Inthanon National Park which boasts the highest mountain peak in Thailand at 2650m above sea level. There
you can experience trekking in the wild but friendly forest and of course there is river rafting for the more adventurous.
Next time you plan a trip to the north of Thailand, look at spending a weekend, week, two, or longer with Swiss Ticino Homestay and Restaurant.
